In a bid to advance the quality of education and make learning more accessible, the Centre for Digital Education and Distance Education, under the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport in Cambodia, has introduced an innovative digital teaching system called ‘Live Teaching.’ This groundbreaking program is being implemented at the new-generation School Program Building located within Preah Yukanthor High School in Phnom Penh, marking a significant leap forward in the nation’s education landscape.

The ‘Live Teaching’ system is designed to bridge the gap between educators and students, regardless of their geographical location. It empowers teachers to share a wide range of educational resources, including photos, audio materials, and interactive activities, with students across the country. Moreover, this platform enables students to engage directly with their teachers online, fostering a dynamic and engaging learning environment.

One of the primary goals of this digital teaching initiative is to align with the model school standard, with a focus on assisting students who may struggle with their studies or have difficulty keeping pace with traditional classroom settings. Through ‘Live Teaching,’ students gain access to an online study club where they can receive personalized guidance from experienced teachers.

Hang Chuon Naron, the Minister of Education Youth and Sport, emphasized the importance of digital learning in Cambodia, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. He noted that online platforms played a crucial role in ensuring continuity in education during challenging times.

The Centre for Digital Education and Distance Education aims to collaborate with various institutions to enhance the quality of digital learning programs in Cambodia. This includes the production of more educational videos and materials to support students, particularly those residing in remote areas.

Online learning not only encourages self-reliance among students but also equips them with valuable research skills by providing access to a multitude of online resources. Students are encouraged to develop their unique learning routines, fostering independence in their educational journey.

Khuon Vicheka, a spokesperson for the Ministry, emphasized the government’s commitment to education in both physical and digital forms. The ‘Live Teaching’ system opens up opportunities for students nationwide to engage in self-study and participate in the new-generation schools, ensuring access to quality education for all.

The initiative has received support from various quarters, including Heng Vanda, the director of the Vanda Institute of Accounting, who highlighted the role of digital learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. He praised the government’s efforts to promote digital education, which not only saves time and money but also allows students to access their study materials conveniently online.

Furthermore, professors from the Royal University of Phnom Penh are ready to contribute their expertise to support students through this program, enhancing the depth and quality of education.

The ‘Live Teaching’ initiative is a testament to Cambodia’s commitment to providing quality education to students, regardless of their location. With this program, the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport is taking a significant step toward strengthening the education sector, making education more accessible, and preparing students for a brighter future.

The introduction of new-generation schools and the ‘Live Teaching’ system marks a transformative phase in Cambodia’s education sector, where innovation and inclusivity take center stage, ultimately ensuring that every student has the opportunity to excel and succeed in their educational journey.
