200 Aspiring Entrepreneurs Gather for KE’s UnipreneurCamp Innovation Drive

by TBC

This past weekend, the city of Phnom Penh witnessed a surge in entrepreneurial spirit as Khmer Enterprise launched the inaugural UnipreneurCamp, a segment of the KE UniPreneur program. The event, strategically held at the American University of Phnom Penh, rallied 200 students from seven different universities across the city. These ambitious participants formed 40 teams, each presenting forward-thinking startup ideas that showcased a blend of originality and strategic acumen.

Scheduled from the 6th to the 8th of July, 2024, the UnipreneurCamp sought to arm students with a mix of technical and interpersonal skills crucial for thriving in today’s startup environment. The participants entered into the life of co-founders, adopting an entrepreneurial mindset crucial for navigating the startup ecosystem and were taught industry best practices including human-centered design, lean startup methodologies, and techniques for validating business ideas.

Chhieng Vanmunin, CEO of Khmer Enterprise and Delegate of the Royal Government, explained, “Our objective is to cultivate a setting conducive to innovation and growth. By drawing participants from a diverse range of academic backgrounds and from various universities nationwide, we’ve created a collaborative atmosphere that is vital for nurturing business success.”

As the event wrapped up, each team presented a condensed version of their investor pitch decks, complete with prototypes of their business solutions. This immersive, hands-on experience didn’t just enable the application of learned theories; it also offered a stage for participants to display their creative and analytical skills.

Kaknika Hawaii, the Vice-President of Growth & Development at AUPP, expressed pride in this collaborative venture, “We are committed to empowering our students and equipping them with the necessary skills to excel in the dynamic startup landscape. This initiative is a reflection of our commitment to cultivating an entrepreneurial environment within our academic framework.”

The program not only deepened the students’ understanding of entrepreneurship but also highlighted the practical steps necessary to transform a concept into a market-ready enterprise. It offered a rare opportunity for attendees to interact with peers and seasoned industry experts, further enriching their learning experience.

Rusydi Khairul, CEO and Co-Founder of Reactor School stated, “Having the UnipreneurCamp at AUPP aligns with our mission to provide premium education that prepares students for real-world challenges. The enthusiasm and innovative ideas from these young minds were truly motivating, and we look forward to their ventures materializing in the future.”

Conducted by Reactor School, this first chapter of UnipreneurCamp has indeed set a formidable standard for subsequent editions, highlighting the importance of collaborative efforts and the promising capabilities of young innovators. The event didn’t just motivate the attendees but also showcased the crucial role of educational initiatives that link classroom learning with actual industry engagement.
