Cambodia is set to host the 12th General Assembly of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) in Phnom Penh come November 2024, under the keen oversight of Cambodian Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen. This marks a significant occasion as it’s the second time the nation will host this prestigious event. In preparation for this assembly, Samdech Techo has strongly emphasized the need for an unbiased and globally attuned discourse, reflecting a nuanced understanding of the regional and worldwide scenarios.

During a recently held meeting in Seoul, South Korea, on September 10, 2024, Samdech Techo met with Chung Eui-yong, the President of ICAPP. With Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet set to co-chair the upcoming event, and Samdech Techo serving as the honorary chair, Cambodia’s leadership is committed to ensuring a fruitful and inclusive dialogue at this global platform.

Chung Eui-yong updated Samdech Techo on the meticulous preparations underway for the General Assembly, stressing the smooth progression due to the collaborative efforts of the Cambodian side. This year, the assembly aims to transcend the accomplishments of previous gatherings by welcoming political parties from an array of nations, thereby widening its scope for promoting peace, reconciliation, and global cooperation.

Expectations are high for the General Assembly to forge pathways in addressing contemporary challenges, backed by the profound support of Samdech Techo and Samdech Thipadei. The conversation between the two leaders highlighted the importance of carefully curating the event’s proceedings and official statements to ensure they mirror the current global and regional landscapes, fostering a spirit of unity and avoiding any potential discord among participants.

Samdech Techo expressed his appreciation towards ICAPP for choosing Cambodia as the venue for such a momentous event, signifying confidence in the country’s ability to facilitate meaningful global discussions. He also stressed the significance of maintaining an impartial and comprehensive narrative throughout the assembly to encapsulate the dynamic global situation.

Acknowledging the intricate nature of the current global stage, Chung Eui-yong thanked Samdech Techo for his invaluable guidance, ensuring the assembly’s ambition for a balanced and non-partisan approach. He also lauded Samdech Techo’s transformative leadership that navigated Cambodia from the trials of tumultuous times to its present state of progress and prosperity. Similarly, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet received commendation for his leadership capabilities, expected to continue steering Cambodia towards further development.

As Cambodia readies itself to host the 12th General Assembly of ICAPP, the focus is clear: fostering discussions that bridge divides and conjure solutions for global as well as regional issues. With a collective aim of peace and reconciliation, the upcoming assembly in Phnom Penh is poised to set a precedent for thoughtful, inclusive, and impactful political dialogue across Asia and beyond, underscored by Cambodia’s commitment to hosting a gathering that reflects the complexities and aspirations of our intertwined world.
