Education and health are high priorities in the 2023 budget: Samdech Hun Sen

The Techo Santepheap National Hospital will open in June of this year on 7.58 hectares in Sangkat Kok Roka, Khan Prek Pnov, Phnom Penh. It will be the largest national hospital in Cambodia and serve people from all over the country. The hospital has 11 buildings with a total of 10,000 beds.

As the government needs to invest in human development and the protection of human lives, Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen said last week that the education and health sectors would be given the highest priority in the national budget. Other sectors, such as national defense and security, would be provided with fewer budgets.

In addition, the Prime Minister said that as education, social services, and health care are the main focuses of development, the government must increase the amount of funding allocated to these areas of the national budget.

According to the Prime Minister, other ministries would decrease recruiting while the national budget for 2023 is planned to benefit people. He also indicated that other sectors will be permitted to hire a few new employees to replace five retired officials. For example, the health industry has been given permission to hire more people this year after the Ministry of Health recruited 3,000 physicians in 2022.

The country would benefit greatly from increasing the budget for these sectors. The Prime Minister authorized the health ministry to hire 200 new doctors as well as 300 new cleaners, drivers, and electricians to work at Techo Santepheap National Hospital since they are related to investing in people to protect human lives.

Samdech Hun Sen asked the Ministry of Health to work with the Techo Santepheap National Hospital to look into the increased need for workers, including the need to hire nurses, surgeons, and general physicians to work in the hospital’s upcoming operational phases.

Techo Santepheap National Hospital, located on 7.58 hectares in Sangkat Kok Roka, Khan Prek Pnov, Phnom Penh, is set to open in June of this year and will become the largest national hospital in Cambodia, serving patients from all over the country.

The 10,000-bed hospital has 11 buildings, some of which are for emergency care, treatment, and intensive care.
