Cambodia’s agricultural sector demonstrated strong performance in the first half of 2025, exporting a total of 7,833,101 tons of crops to 78 international markets, a 27 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024, according to a recent report from the General Directorate of Agriculture under the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
The exported volume included 4,272,735 tons of non-rice crops, 3,176,561 tons of paddy rice, and 384,804 tons of milled rice. The Ministry estimates the total export revenue at over USD 2.872 billion during the six-month period.
Export Revenue Breakdown
- Non-rice crops: Over USD 1.926 billion
- Paddy rice: More than USD 638 million
- Milled rice: Approximately USD 307 million
These numbers reflect Cambodia’s growing capability in diversifying agricultural exports and tapping into new markets while sustaining strong demand in traditional sectors such as rice and cassava.
Performance of Key Agricultural Products
Among the non-rice crops, cassava, cashew nuts, mangoes, bananas, and longan were significant contributors:
- Fresh cassava: Over 1.58 million tons, down 5% year-on-year
- Cassava chips: Over 1.29 million tons, up 57%
- Cashew nuts: Over 570,000 tons, up 6%
- Fresh mangoes: Over 170,000 tons, down 7%
- Fresh bananas: Nearly 150,000 tons, up 15%
- Maize: Over 50,000 tons, down 20%
- Fresh longan: Over 190,000 tons, up 31%
- Other 79 agricultural products: A combined 420,000 tons, down 2%
Factors Behind Fluctuations
The report notes that some declines in crop exports are linked to increased domestic consumption. For example:
- Local processing plants and animal feed factories are purchasing more fresh cassava and maize for internal use.
- Fresh mangoes are increasingly processed into pulp for export rather than shipped in their raw form.
These shifts reflect a positive trend toward value-added production and the localization of agri-processing industries, which not only helps in stabilizing farmer incomes but also strengthens Cambodia’s agribusiness value chains.

Annual Outlook and 2024 Context
The report also referenced the Ministry’s 2024 export figures, when Cambodia shipped a total of 11.66 million tons of crops, earning USD 4.792 billion — an increase of USD 143 million compared to 2023. Major export products included paddy rice, milled rice, rubber, cassava (fresh and chips), mango, banana, pepper, cashew nuts, maize, coconut oil, and over 77 other products.
With the strong performance in the first half of 2025, Cambodia is poised to once again surpass previous records, fueled by increased market diversification, agro-industrial investment, and government support for modern farming and processing technologies.
A Growing Force in Regional Agriculture
Cambodia’s steady rise in agricultural exports underlines its growing competitiveness in the ASEAN agri-market and its potential as a reliable supplier of both staple and high-value crops. As the country continues to modernize its agricultural practices and expand trade relationships, stakeholders are optimistic about meeting — and exceeding — the country’s 2025 export targets.
