Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has reiterated that the agriculture sector remains a cornerstone of the nation’s priorities. Speaking this morning at the inauguration ceremony of new infrastructure in Bun Rany Senchey Damnak Trayoeung village, Kravagn district, Pursat province, the Prime Minister emphasized the Royal Government’s unwavering commitment to addressing agriculture-related challenges.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet explained that while he may not have made public statements on the matter, he has been closely monitoring the sector. He highlighted the government’s proactive approach, stating that instructions have been issued to relevant ministries and institutions to find effective interventions for supporting farmers.
“I would like to inform the public that although I have not spoken publicly or responded to external comments, the Royal Government, ministries, and specialized institutions have been actively engaged. The agricultural sector is a very important priority for our country and the world,” he said.
The Prime Minister stressed that agriculture and food security will remain top priorities as long as people rely on these resources for sustenance. He also noted that the challenges facing agriculture are not unique to Cambodia but are part of a broader global concern.
The significance of agriculture to Cambodia’s economy is undeniable. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, the sector contributes approximately 22 percent to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP). Of this, crop production accounts for 57.1 percent, fisheries 24.8 percent, animal production 11.2 percent, and forestry 7 percent.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet’s reaffirmation underscores the Royal Government’s dedication to strengthening the agriculture sector and ensuring food security for the nation.
