In a series of official visits that highlight Cambodia’s commitment to fostering international ties and business relations, His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister SOK Chenda Sophea, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, embarked on a diplomatic journey on 23 May 2024. This expedition gears up for an extensive itinerary that will see engagements with the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Türkiye from 24th to 29th May 2024, and a subsequent appearance at the 4th Meeting of French-Speaking Entrepreneurs (REF) in Marrakech, Morocco from 30th to 31st May 2024.

The first leg of Deputy Prime Minister Sophea’s trip involves a formal visit to China, where diplomatic relations have deep roots and continue to grow. The visit is anticipated to cover discussions that revolve around the further development of mutual trade relations, investment opportunities, and the reinforcement of bilateral ties between the two nations. Following the China visit, the Deputy Prime Minister will proceed to the Republic of Türkiye. This segment of the tour is set to focus on exploring avenues for collaboration, enhancing economic ties, and strengthening the existing friendly relations between Cambodia and Türkiye.

With the official visits to China and Türkiye paving the way for enhanced cooperation, the Deputy Prime Minister’s presence will then transition to the cultural city of Marrakech, Morocco. Here, Deputy Prime Minister Sophea is scheduled to take part in the 4th edition of the Meeting of French-Speaking Entrepreneurs (REF). Recognized as a notable congregation of the Francophone business community, the event presents an excellent opportunity for Cambodia to network, exchange ideas, and build partnerships with global entrepreneurs from French-speaking nations.

These serial engagements underscore Cambodia’s proactive approach to engaging with international partners and strengthening its role in global economic forums. By participating in the REF meeting, Cambodia aims to leverage its French-speaking heritage to tap into the Francophone economic sphere and open doors for enhanced economic cooperation.

As Deputy Prime Minister Sophea travels to fulfill these diplomatic endeavors, Cambodia demonstrates its zeal for pursuing advantageous partnerships, promoting economic prosperity, and asserting itself as an active participant on the international stage. Through such engagements, the country seeks to enrich its international relationships and foster an environment conducive to business growth and cultural exchange.
