The Techo Startup Center recently became a hub of digital advancement for the business community in Cambodia on the 9th of September, 2024. An event centered on the training of Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) in digital products and services prominently showcased the dedication to advancing digital skills within the country’s entrepreneurial sectors. Hosted by the Techo Startup Center Headquarters, the training session was part of a broader initiative titled Enterprises Go Digital (EGD).

The Deputy Director of the Techo Startup Center, Dr. Vong Rylida, curated a warm welcome for the attendees, acknowledging the significance of MSMEs in bolstering the Cambodian economy. Dr. Rylida stressed how digital innovation and growth are intrinsically linked, and educating MSMEs about this correlation stands at the forefront of economic progression.

The event witnessed a collaboration with the United States Embassy in Cambodia, welcoming keynote speaker Melinda F. Emerson. Known as America’s foremost authority on small businesses, and the founder of SmallBizLady Academy, Emerson shared her considerable insights. Her presentation, titled “Taking Your Small Business to the Next Level with Social Media,” dove into the utilization of social networks as powerful tools for business development and outreach. The response from the audience was clear; such knowledge is indispensable in today’s market, where digital visibility can make or break a business.

The benefits of this event were further augmented by the inclusion of 11 digital solution providers who demonstrated their cutting-edge products. These presentations gave rise to an interactive question-and-answer session. The aim here was to solidify the attendees’ comprehension of the available digital transformation tools. With close to 40 entrepreneurs present, including 17 women, the event spotlighted the vital role that digital acumen plays in ensuring a competitive edge and fostering innovative practices among MSMEs.

The synergy between the Techo Startup Center and the United States Embassy is a milestone in the journey to endow Cambodian businesses with prowess in the digital realm. Such joint efforts equip these enterprises with essential resources and an understanding required to navigate and succeed in our digitally intensive era.

Under the auspices of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Enterprises Go Digital (EGD) Program, managed by the Techo Startup Center, has set clear objectives for its mission. It aims to increase the availability and quality of digital products and services for businesses, enhance access to digital transformation knowledge and training, and advocate the utilization of the Royal Government’s digital platforms. These goals are intended to propel MSMEs into leveraging digital technologies to not only transform their individual enterprises but also contribute significantly to the national economy.

The EGD program’s concerted focus on practical training sessions symbolizes a commitment to supporting MSMEs in becoming digitally savvy, thereby contributing to the overall economic advancement and modernization of Cambodia’s market. As businesses worldwide integrate digital strategies into their core operations, the need for such training initiatives becomes all the more apparent. Empowering local entrepreneurs with the skills and tools to compete in the digital business landscape is instrumental in securing a resilient and innovative economic future for Cambodia.
