Lessons on Positive Thinking: The Secret to Your Happier Life

by Surya Narayan

Whatever we do in life, it is to achieve happiness in some form or another for both ourselves and the rest of the world. My ultimate life goal is to be happy, spread happiness, and make as many people happy as possible.

I agree with Aristotle: “Happiness is the meaning and purpose of life, the whole purpose and final goal of human existence.”

However, happiness is not the same as pleasure, which is sensual and fleeting.

Happiness is not even related to success, as most successful individuals are unhappy.

Happiness is a subjective experience that only the perceiver understands.

However, happiness cannot be found in anything or anyone because happiness (or unhappiness) is the result of our actions.

Happiness is multifaceted and has many dimensions. To remain happy, you must explore and master all dimensions of happiness.

There are two main factors that contribute to one’s level of happiness (or subjective well-being), and they are:

A. Emotional balance: We all go through times of positive and negative feelings and emotions. When positive emotions outweigh negative ones, people typically express higher levels of happiness.

B. Your level of happiness in life is a reflection of your satisfaction with various aspects of your life, such as your personal connections, your career, your accomplishments, and whatever else you consider significant.

The dimensions of happiness are as follows:-

1. Comfort

It is focused on the well-being of the body. To be comfortable, you need a decent house and other material possessions. No matter if you live in a desert at 50 degrees Celsius or on snow-covered slopes at -20 degrees Celsius, you can’t be happy unless you have a nice home that stays at the right temperature.

2. Pleasure

It is linked to sensual enjoyment. Your senses are the most powerful source of instant pleasure. You must look after them. It is impossible to be happy if your sensual needs are not met.

3. Joy

It is associated with emotions. To keep your heart happy and fulfilled, you must have positive feelings such as love, compassion, empathy, and hope.

4. Wisdom

Ignorance is not bliss in the real world. To understand why something happens, you must first understand the world. Happiness, though, requires more than just knowledge. You have to be smart enough to use the right information at the right time and in the right way.

5. Faith

There is no happiness without trust and faith. You must have faith in yourself. Humanity, God, and Nature will help us get through the tough moments. We do not view the world as it is. We see the world as we are. If our hearts were filled with faith, we would be able to easily connect with the world and enjoy happiness and bliss in our lives.

If you can create a favorable environment in your body, state of mind, and emotions, you will not have to worry about your physical health, mental wellbeing, or happiness.
