In a notable event on May 20, 2024, the NIDIR under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC) showcased a significant gathering that drew attention to the evolving landscape of global diplomacy. The occasion was graced by His Excellency Dr. UN Kheang, Secretary of State of MFAIC, who led the opening ceremony of a profound panel discussion titled “China’s Diplomacy in the New Era: Theories and Practices.” The dialogue was enriched by the presence of distinguished panelists, including Her Excellency Chen Bo, President of the China Institute of International Studies (CIIS), Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, along with three other skilled experts from CIIS.
The panel discussion, which was a collaborative effort by NIDIR, saw an impressive turnout exceeding 100 attendees. Participants ranged from staff of MFAIC, representatives from various line ministries, to scholars from institutions of higher learning and think tanks. These assembled minds converged to delve deep into an exploration of China’s socio-economic progressions and its pivotal role in shaping the future on a global scale. Through the lens of China’s recent paradigms such as the Global Development Initiative (GDI), the Global Civilization Initiative (GCI), and the Global Security Initiative (GSI), the discussion sought to envision the creation of a unified global community.
A key focus of the panel was the celebration of the enduring and profound relations between Cambodia and China, with an emphasis on the mutual regard and camaraderie that bonds the two nations. There was a unified acknowledgment of China’s view of Cambodia as a paragon of international cooperation and relations.
Adding to the day’s significance, a bilateral meeting was held between His Excellency Dr. UN Kheang and Her Excellency Chen Bo, representing NIDIR and CIIS respectively. This meeting, which took place alongside a working lunch, served as a fertile ground for exploring avenues of cooperation. Discussions aimed at the potential signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two prestigious institutions were at the forefront. The envisioned MOU would pave the way for a detailed work plan encompassing joint ventures in academic exchanges, research, and training efforts, setting a course for deepened collaborative relations in the future.
Overall, the event marked a momentous step in nurturing dialogue and cooperation between Cambodia and China, further reinforcing their shared commitment to advancing global diplomacy and mutual understanding.
