Virak Buntham Express, owned by the esteemed Neak Okhna Vireak Suo, is set to launch its new seaplane service, VET Airways, in the near future. The ambitious project has already received the green light after the company initiated the process by submitting a letter of intent to Dr. Mao Havannall, Minister in charge of the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation, on July 11, 2024. The company anticipates receiving its business license by the end of 2024, making Virak Buntham the first Cambodian company to offer seaplane services.

VET Airways will provide a unique experience with seaplanes designed for both leisure and professional flight training. These seaplanes, capable of operating on water, in the air, and on land, represent a significant step forward in Cambodia’s aviation sector. The service will not only enhance tourism but also contribute to the development of aviation skills in the country, with internationally recognized certifications for pilots.

In early May 2024, Neak Okhna Vireak Suo shared a five-minute video on Facebook showcasing a test flight of the seaplane, demonstrating its quality and safety. He emphasized the exceptional versatility of the seaplane, highlighting its ability to operate seamlessly on water, air, and land.

Neak Okhna Vireak Suo stated, “Whether new or established, the foundation of any strong investment lies in knowledge and experience. Meet Virak Buntham Air soon (taking off on water, flying in the air, landing on water, and running on land in Cambodia in the near future). Virak Buntham always leads the way, pioneering in Cambodia, and consistently introducing new innovations for our customers and community.”

The company has purchased new aircraft and initiated the certification process with the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation for Adventure Aviation Operations (sightseeing flights) and an Aviation Training Organization (flight school). New facilities for the seaplane base and flight training at Dara Sakor are progressing rapidly, with full operations expected by the end of the year. Seaplane air charters are anticipated to begin in early 2025.

Virak Buntham Express continues to lead and innovate in Cambodia’s transportation sector, offering new and exciting services for both tourists and locals.

Director of Flight Operations / Chief Pilot Capt. Yauheni (Eugene) Zakharankau told The Better Cambodia, “This will bring a new sensation to the tourism market, as Cambodia is witnessing a high inflow of tourists. Our aim is to connect all tourist and business sites across Cambodia to make travel easy and affordable. We believe this service will not only boost tourism but also enhance the overall travel experience within the country.”

The seaplane service is poised to revolutionize travel in Cambodia, making remote tourist destinations more accessible and offering unique sightseeing opportunities. The convenience of seaplane travel will shorten travel times significantly, allowing tourists to maximize their experiences. Additionally, VET Airways plans to offer competitive pricing to ensure that seaplane travel is an affordable option for a broader audience.

Neak Okhna Vireak Suo’s vision extends beyond just leisure travel. By incorporating professional flight training into the service, VET Airways aims to cultivate a new generation of Cambodian pilots, contributing to the local aviation industry’s growth. The training programs will provide internationally recognized certifications, equipping graduates with the skills and qualifications needed to pursue careers in aviation both domestically and abroad.

The seaplanes, designed for versatility, can operate on various terrains, making them ideal for Cambodia’s diverse landscape. This adaptability ensures that VET Airways can provide consistent and reliable service regardless of the geographical challenges. Whether taking off from water, landing on water, or flying over land, the seaplanes are equipped to handle all conditions with utmost safety and efficiency.

With the expected launch by the end of 2024, Virak Buntham Express is poised to make a significant impact on Cambodia’s travel and tourism industry. The innovative seaplane service aligns with the country’s goals of enhancing its tourism infrastructure and providing unique travel experiences. The company’s dedication to safety, quality, and customer satisfaction positions it as a leader in Cambodia’s evolving aviation market.

As the first Cambodian company to offer such a service, VET Airways sets a precedent for future developments in the country’s aviation sector. The launch of seaplane services is a testament to Neak Okhna Vireak Suo’s visionary leadership and commitment to driving progress and innovation in Cambodia.

VET Airways is not just a new airline but a significant milestone in Cambodia’s journey towards becoming a premier travel destination. The introduction of seaplane services will undoubtedly enhance the country’s tourism appeal, making it easier and more enjoyable for visitors to explore Cambodia’s rich cultural heritage and natural beauty.
