Cambodia’s Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), HE Dith Tina, recently met with Ms. Choi Moonjung, Country Director of KOICA Cambodia Office, to discuss a significant grant aimed at improving the nation’s agricultural extension services. The meeting took place earlier this week in Phnom Penh.
The initiative, titled “Building an Integrated Agriculture Extension-Education-Research Nexus for Climate Change Adaptation in Cambodia,” has been allocated a grant of USD 12 million for implementation from 2025 to 2030.
According to a statement issued on December 25, the project will focus on strengthening the Faculty of Agricultural Education and Communications through comprehensive support, including upgraded infrastructure, modern equipment, teaching aids, curriculum development, and training materials.
Additionally, the project will enhance the skills and capacities of public officers involved in agricultural extension services, both at the central level and across the nationwide network of Commune Agriculture Officers (CAOs). This initiative aims to ensure that agricultural practitioners are equipped to disseminate the latest knowledge and technologies to farmers, promoting sustainable practices and resilience to climate change.
HE Minister Dith Tina highlighted the critical role of investing in human resources within the agricultural sector. He stressed that empowering CAOs is a pivotal step toward ensuring Cambodian farmers gain access to innovative agricultural practices, which are essential for boosting productivity and adapting to the challenges posed by climate change.
