Cambodia is set to participate actively in the third iteration of the Cambodia-Thailand Ministerial Meeting on Bilateral Tourism Cooperation, scheduled for July 17-18, 2024, in Bangkok, Thailand. This engagement is at the behest of Thai Minister of Tourism and Sports, Sermsak Pongpanit, and with the authorization from the Royal Government of Cambodia. Sok Soken, the Cambodian Minister of Tourism, will spearhead a delegation comprising key figures from the Ministry of Tourism.

The forthcoming meeting serves as a continuation of the collaborative path laid out by the 2014 Memorandum of Understanding on Tourism Cooperation between the two nations. This agreement has fostered a series of dialogues and partnerships aimed at bolstering the tourism sectors of both countries.

According to details released in a press statement by Fresh News on July 17, the agenda for this year’s meeting is robust, covering several pivotal topics. Among them are discussions aimed at sharing insights and experiences related to tourism development in both Cambodia and Thailand. Additionally, participants will revisit and update the Joint Action Plan on Tourism Cooperation for the years 2023-2025. A significant highlight of the meeting will be the adoption of a Joint Statement intended to enhance and refine the implementation strategies of bilateral tourism cooperation, aligning them with new directions recommended by the heads of government from both countries.

The meeting will also feature a focused bilateral discussion between the Cambodia Tourism Marketing and Promotion Board (CTB) and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). This session is designed to further encourage private sector engagement and cooperation between the two countries. A key objective is to develop a joint action program that not only increases tourist flow between Cambodia and Thailand but also draws in more visitors from other regions. This initiative is part of the broader “BUILD + 3Ds” strategy spearheaded by Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism, aiming to enhance regional and global awareness of Cambodia’s tourism offerings and potential.

The interactions at the meeting are poised to yield significant dividends in terms of shared knowledge, strategic alignment, and joint promotional efforts, thereby intensifying the already substantial tourism ties between Cambodia and Thailand. This collaborative endeavor illustrates the commitment of both nations to leverage their cultural and historical proximity to boost economic growth and cultural exchange through enhanced tourism cooperation.
