Cambodian Prime Minister Vows to Prioritize Citizens’ Concerns

by TBC

The Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has recently declared that the Royal Government is deeply committed to prioritizing and responding to the issues faced by its citizens. This confirmation was made during a conversation with Buddhist priests at the National Institute of Education on Thursday (Aug. 15).

During his talk, the prime minister pointed out that responding to the populace’s concerns was neither a sporadic nor secondary activity, but rather a sustained effort of the Government. He emphasized that this effort includes various interventions, such as engaging the private sector to discuss and resolve the financial difficulties experienced by the citizens, especially concerning currency exchange rate deductions.

“The active resolution of challenges facing our citizens remains a fundamental responsibility,” the prime minister stated. “For instance, domestic financial burdens are of note, and I have personally been involved in discussing these issues with those in the banking sector to alleviate some of the strain experienced by our people.”

He recounted that, just a few months into his term, the administration convened with private sector leaders to establish beneficial policies. In light of these undertakings, the prime minister has now reached out to the National Bank of Cambodia to collaborate closely with these sectors to conjure up solutions aimed at supporting the people more effectively and easing financial challenges.

Continuing, Samdech Thipadei acknowledged the challenge of implementing policies effectively across the board and admitted that the government may not always interact with the public as frequently as needed. “It’s true that sometimes our engagements could be perceived by some as performative, yet these interactions are necessary for directly confronting and solving the precise problems faced by our community,” he said, recognising the delicate balance between perception and action in governance.

The prime minister’s address underlined his administration’s openness to feedback and underscored the importance of face-to-face gatherings as they present a direct avenue to understand and address citizen’s issues in a meaningful way. The dialogue aimed to reinforce the message that the Royal Government remains tuned into the voices of its people and is actively working to address their needs.
