The Ministry of Public Works and Transport, in collaboration with the Kampong Cham provincial administration, is set to embark on a project to construct a standard tourism port along the Mekong River in Kampong Cham province. The objective of this endeavor is to create a dedicated docking facility for cruise ships, bolstering the province’s tourism industry.

Phan Rim, spokesperson for the ministry, announced on March 29, 2024, that the proposed tourism port will provide Kampong Cham province with a state-of-the-art facility for cruise ships, enabling both domestic and international tourists to visit the province’s revered tourism resorts.

Rim highlighted the necessity for a standard port, emphasizing that the current docking area for cruise ships is inadequate. The new port aims to address this by providing a safe and aesthetically pleasing docking facility, specifically designed to accommodate international cruise ships.

Following a recent inspection and evaluation of the river bank location in Kampong Cham city, it was determined that the selected site possesses favorable conditions for development. The vast area available for port infrastructure, including spacious waiting rooms, modern toilet facilities, and more, solidifies the suitability of the chosen location.

Moving forward, a technical team will conduct an in-depth assessment of the site’s technical conditions and analyze the flow of waterways. This comprehensive study will identify potential challenges and obstacles along the waterway, ensuring that the port’s construction and functionality align seamlessly with the region’s unique characteristics.

The project to build a tourism port in Kampong Cham province demonstrates the government’s commitment to enhancing the province’s tourism sector and attracting a larger number of visitors. By establishing a dedicated facility for cruise ships, the ministry aims to improve accessibility and create a more enjoyable and convenient experience for tourists exploring Kampong Cham’s renowned destinations.

This development not only benefits the tourism industry but also contributes to the overall economic growth of the province. It is expected to generate employment opportunities, boost local businesses, and stimulate infrastructure development in the surrounding areas.

As the technical team continues its detailed analysis and planning, the construction of the tourism port in Kampong Cham province represents a significant step towards establishing the region as an attractive tourist destination. This initiative aligns with the government’s broader vision to promote sustainable tourism and propel the province towards a prosperous future.

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport’s plan to build a tourism port in Kampong Cham province will serve as a catalyst for the province’s tourism sector, attracting visitors from both within the country and abroad. By providing a safe and visually appealing docking facility for cruise ships, the government aims to enhance the overall experience for tourists and bolster the local economy. With careful study and planning, this project sets the stage for Kampong Cham to thrive as a prominent tourist destination in the years to come.
