The Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Manet, together with a delegation of high-ranking officials, set foot in South Korea on Wednesday, May 15th, for a state visit spanning from May 15th to 18th, 2024. The Cambodian leader, Samdech Thipadei, honored the invitation extended by the President of South Korea, Yoon Suk Yeol.

The delegation is distinguished, including First Vice-chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, Sun Chanthol; the Cambodian Foreign Minister, Sok Chenda Sophea; as well as various ministers, government authorities, and representatives from the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce. This information was detailed in a press release issued on May 13, 2024.

The aim of the visit is to foster discussions between Cambodia and South Korea on a breadth of issues, focusing prominently on reinforcing the partnership and pursuing growth in cooperation in diverse sectors. This mission is viewed as an opportunity to propel the bilateral relationship forward.

During this consequential visit, Samdech Thipadei, alongside his spouse Pich Chanmony, is expected to engage in important dialogues with President Yoon Suk Yeol. These talks are anticipated to lead to the signing of several significant agreements, enhancing economic development and joint infrastructure initiatives.

Apart from the pivotal discourse with President Yoon, the Cambodian Prime Minister has scheduled encounters with other key figures in South Korea’s political landscape, including the South Korean Prime Minister, Han Duck-soo, and the Speaker of the National Assembly, Kim Jin-pyo.

Furthermore, this official visit is not solely confined to political engagement. PM Hun Manet will also partake in the Cambodia-Republic of Korea business forum, which provides a platform for fostering commercial partnerships and exploring investment opportunities. This event will also offer the Prime Minister a chance to engage with prominent Korean companies and to connect with Cambodians who are residents in South Korea.

The visit by the Cambodian Prime Minister to South Korea is seen as a strategic move in solidifying the bonds between the two nations and is expected to open doors to many beneficial outcomes in terms of economic and cultural exchanges between Cambodia and the Republic of Korea.
