On the 30th of April, 2024, a significant meeting took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Cambodia, marking a step forward in international relations. His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister SOK Chenda Sophea, who also serves as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, engaged in comprehensive discussions with Mr. Fabrice ETIENNE, the Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the French Embassy to Cambodia. This meeting underscored the mutual commitment of both nations to enhance their bilateral relations.

The core agenda of the discussion was the ambitious objective to elevate the relationship between Cambodia and France to the level of strategic partners by the year 2026. This goal reflects the depth and breadth of cooperation that both nations aspire to achieve in the coming years. Strategic partnership status is not only a hallmark of deep diplomatic ties but also enables a broader spectrum of collaboration across various domains including economic, cultural, and technological sectors among others.

During the meeting, both parties exchanged views on a range of current projects and future collaborations. These discussions were not merely symbolic but are indicative of the concrete steps both countries are willing to take to realize their shared vision. The focus was on mapping out a clear pathway to accelerate and deepen collaborations that would serve the mutual interests of both countries.

Furthermore, the meeting served as an opportunity to identify new areas of cooperation that could be beneficial for both countries. With a forward-looking approach, the discussions aimed at uncovering potential projects that align with both nations’ developmental goals and strategic interests.

This engagement between Cambodia and France showcases a proactive approach toward international cooperation and signals a promising future for the bilateral relations of these two nations. By setting a clear target for achieving strategic partnership status by 2026, Cambodia and France are laying down the foundation for a structured and enhanced partnership that stands to benefit not only their own countries but also contributes positively to global diplomacy and international relations.
