Japan will donate old Advanced Landmine Imaging System (ALIS) mine detectors to the nearly completed Techo Peace Museum in Siem Reap province, Cambodia. These mine detectors have been researched and developed in collaboration with Cambodia over the past 20 years.
The donation was announced during a meeting held on January 6 at the Cambodian Mine Action Centre’s (CMAC) headquarters. The meeting involved H.E. Heng Ratana, Director General of CMAC, Prof. Motoyuki Sato from Japan, and a representative from Costruzioni Elettroniche Industriali Automatismi (CEIA), an Italian mine detection company.
During the meeting, Prof. Sato confirmed the donation of the old ALIS mine detectors, which will be displayed at the Techo Peace Museum as part of its historical exhibits.
H.E. Heng Ratana noted that Prof. Sato has been working on the ALIS mine detection technology with CMAC since 2005. After two decades of dedicated research and development, the technology has achieved success in the international market.
“Professor Sato is a prime example of perseverance, confidence, and technological innovation for humanity. It took around 20 years for the ALIS mine detector to successfully enter the international market,” stated the CMAC director general.
