On Tuesday, May 7, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet addressed government officials and guests at the Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel during the inauguration of the National Single Window (NSW) system, shedding light on a dynamic approach to elevate the nation’s business landscape. The Prime Minister tabled five key recommendations directed towards ministries, institutions, and the private sector, all aimed at optimizing the potential of the NSW application to streamline trade and investment processes within the kingdom.
The first of these recommendations emphasized the urgency for all relevant bodies, including those yet to engage with the NSW, to integrate themselves into the system promptly. For entities already utilizing the platform, he urged for sustained focus and adherence to ensure the delivery of services is both efficient and of high quality.
Further extending his guidance, the Prime Minister requested the NSW’s Steering Committee to conduct regular assessments of the application’s performance. The goal is to refine and expand the system’s capabilities while ensuring it is interconnected with other crucial business and trade IT infrastructures, thus directly responding to the evolving requirements of the commercial sector.
The involvement of the private sector was spotlighted as pivotal, with the Prime Minister advocating for active participation. He persuaded businesses to utilize the NSW platform thoroughly and to contribute by offering valuable feedback aimed at refining the system.
He also touched upon the significance of addressing issues faced by the private sector. The Prime Minister stressed the importance of continuous efforts from ministries and institutions in fostering a business-friendly environment and accelerating trade processes. This includes implementing resolutions from the discussions held during the 19th Government-Private Sector Forum on November 13, 2023.
Lastly, Prime Minister Hun Manet proposed a collaborative approach for all governmental bodies to expedite the digital transformation of essential services. Under the oversight of the Digital Economy and Business Committee, he seeks to cultivate a “Digital Ecosystem for Business.” This envisioned framework aims not just to reform but to enrich the business environment significantly, thereby making Cambodia a more appealing destination for investment.
These strategic recommendations manifest the government’s resolve to leverage digital innovations, like the NSW system, to refine bureaucratic processes, thereby promising a more conducive and competitive business environment in Cambodia.
