The announcement was made on 18 February 2026, aiming to enhance gender diversity in technical fields and expand educational opportunities for women across Southeast Asia.
Organized jointly by ASEAN member states and UK partners, the scholarship programme targets outstanding women graduates who are committed to advancing STEM careers. The initiative supports postgraduate studies in leading UK universities, with scholarships covering tuition fees, living expenses, travel, and other academic costs. Eligible candidates are encouraged to submit applications before the late April 2026 deadline, with final awardees expected to begin studies in the UK during the 2026–2027 academic year.
According to programme details, the scholarship seeks to address global skills gaps in STEM sectors by empowering women with high-quality education and research experience. It also emphasizes the importance of gender equality in science and technology, aligning with broader ASEAN strategies to promote inclusive economic growth and innovation. Participants may pursue postgraduate degrees in areas such as data science, engineering, biotechnology, environmental sciences, artificial intelligence, and related fields.
Representatives from ASEAN educational and governmental entities highlighted that expanding access to advanced STEM education will help strengthen regional talent pools and foster international cooperation. The scholarship programme is part of ongoing collaborative efforts between ASEAN and UK academic institutions to promote student mobility, research exchange, and professional development within the global scientific community.
Interested candidates from all ASEAN member states are advised to review eligibility requirements and application procedures on the official programme website. The initiative is expected to attract a diverse cohort of women scholars who will contribute to innovation and technological advancement both regionally and internationally.
This scholarship opportunity underscores a growing focus on expanding educational pathways for women in STEM and strengthening ASEAN-UK educational partnerships in 2026.
