Cambodia and Guizhou Collaborate to Drive Technological Innovation for SMEs

by TBC

On January 16, 2025, Minister HEM Vanndy welcomed a business delegation from the Guizhou Internet Association at the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation (MISTI). The meeting focused on advancing technological innovation tailored to the needs of Cambodia’s small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

During the discussion, Mr. Yu Junfang, President of the Guizhou Internet Association, shared insights into Guizhou’s remarkable transformation. Once a lagging region, Guizhou has emerged as a leader in China’s digital economy within a decade by leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and 5G technologies to modernize industries and revitalize its local economy.

The delegation, comprising representatives from various technology companies, proposed customized solutions for Cambodia’s industries. They showcased successful projects in areas such as tourism, medical technology, and digital economy platforms.

“We aim to organize a business-matching event to connect Chinese technology firms with Cambodian SMEs, fostering knowledge transfer and strategic partnerships,” said Mr. Yu Junfang. He also announced plans to launch joint tech initiatives with Cambodia during the country’s 3rd National STI Day, set for March 26, 2025.

Minister Vanndy praised Guizhou’s achievements, calling them an inspiring model for Cambodia as the nation works toward graduating from least developed country (LDC) status by 2029. He emphasized Cambodia’s commitment to diversifying its economy and improving productivity through advanced technologies, capitalizing on its youthful population and aligning with government priorities for innovation.

The Minister expressed strong support for engaging small and medium-sized Chinese tech companies capable of adapting solutions to Cambodia’s unique context. He reassured the delegation of Cambodia’s dedication to fostering an enabling environment for partnerships. This effort, he noted, is underpinned by a dynamic and forward-looking government focused on building a robust innovation ecosystem to strengthen ties between Cambodia and China.
