The Royal Government of Cambodia’s Spokesperson’s Unit has issued an official statement outlining the outcomes of a key virtual meeting on April 16, 2025, between senior Cambodian officials and the United States Trade Representative, focusing on tariff issues and broader trade relations.
Held at the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), the meeting was chaired by H.E. Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of the CDC, together with H.E. Cham Nimul, Minister of Commerce. They led the Ad Hoc Cambodia–U.S. Bilateral Relations Coordination Working Group in a virtual session with H.E. Ambassador Jamieson Greer, the U.S. Trade Representative.
This dialogue was initiated in response to a formal letter from Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet to U.S. President Donald J. Trump, dated April 4, 2025, which expressed Cambodia’s intent to engage in good-faith negotiations. A central focus of the meeting was the recent imposition of higher tariffs by both countries and efforts to seek a mutual resolution.
Both parties emphasised their commitment to strengthening trade and investment cooperation, with particular attention given to resolving tariff-related issues. The discussions laid the foundation for future negotiations aimed at building a fair, balanced, and mutually beneficial trade relationship.
The two sides agreed to hold additional meetings soon to further these objectives.
The Cambodian Government reaffirmed its readiness to work closely with the United States to reduce trade barriers and enhance economic cooperation for the long term.
