Phnom Penh — Cambodia is taking a significant step toward improving industrial safety through closer collaboration with Chinese experts, following a high-level meeting between Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, H.E. Hem Vandy, and a delegation from the TE Zhong Equipment Inspection Research Institute.
The visiting delegation, led by Long Xiongfei, discussed strategic initiatives to bolster equipment and machinery safety in Cambodia’s growing industrial sector. TE Zhong, known for its advanced safety inspection technologies and technical expertise, presented proposals for cooperation with the Ministry in areas including technical personnel training, factory safety system upgrades, and the introduction of advanced inspection protocols.
Minister Hem Vandy welcomed the initiative, highlighting that industrial safety is a core component of Cambodia’s industrial development strategy. As the country experiences accelerated growth in manufacturing and industrial activity, ensuring the safe operation of equipment has become essential to reducing workplace hazards and building investor confidence.
A key highlight of the meeting was the official launch of the Cambodia Special Equipment Inspection Centre, a milestone Minister Vandy described as vital for safeguarding industrial operations. He noted that the centre would serve as an important platform for technical collaboration, professional development, and employment generation.
“The Cambodia Special Equipment Inspection Centre will play a critical role in enhancing national safety standards,” Minister Vandy said. “We are confident that this cooperation will contribute to strengthening Cambodia’s human capital, technical capacity, and long-term industrial sustainability.”
He also called for ongoing technical exchanges and information-sharing between the Ministry and the Centre, particularly in identifying and addressing risks uncovered during inspections. These efforts, he noted, are crucial for establishing a robust safety framework for special equipment used across various sectors, including construction, manufacturing, and logistics.
Minister Vandy concluded the meeting by reaffirming Cambodia’s commitment to international cooperation in industrial safety and invited TE Zhong to continue supporting Cambodia’s goals for safer, more efficient industrial development.
The Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation continues to advance its national safety agenda by working with global partners to modernise inspection systems, strengthen workforce skills, and align safety protocols with international best practices.
