Guangzhou Industrial Investment Holdings Group Co., Ltd. (GIIHG), a major Chinese state-owned industrial conglomerate, has selected Cambodia as its primary manufacturing base for automobile tires in the ASEAN region. The decision highlights Cambodia’s growing role as a regional manufacturing destination supported by expanding infrastructure, special economic zones, and trade connectivity.
GIIHG’s tire manufacturing subsidiary, Wanli Tire, has commenced operations at its production facility located in the Xin Bavet Special Economic Zone in Svay Rieng Province. The project involves an investment of approximately USD 300 million and currently has an annual production capacity of six million tires. The company plans to expand output to 12 million tires by the end of 2026 to meet rising regional and global demand.
The factory produces multiple tire brands intended for passenger vehicles and commercial applications. The Cambodia facility is expected to function as the group’s central production and distribution hub for Southeast Asia, supporting exports to more than 160 international markets. The expansion aligns with the company’s strategy to strengthen its supply chain presence within ASEAN.
The investment follows engagement between the company and Cambodian authorities during overseas investment promotion initiatives. Government representatives highlighted Cambodia’s favorable investment environment, streamlined approval processes, and access to regional and international trade agreements as key factors supporting large-scale manufacturing investments.
The tire manufacturing plant has already generated employment for over 600 local workers, with additional job creation anticipated as production capacity increases. The company has indicated a focus on skills development, technology transfer, and adherence to environmental and operational standards consistent with global manufacturing practices.
Cambodia’s participation in major regional trade frameworks provides manufacturers operating in the country with preferential access to key markets across Asia-Pacific and beyond. This positions Cambodia as a competitive export-oriented manufacturing base within the ASEAN region.
The establishment of the Wanli Tire facility is expected to contribute to Cambodia’s industrial diversification, export growth, and long-term economic development. It also reinforces the country’s position as an emerging hub for automotive component manufacturing in Southeast Asia.
