A new science library was officially inaugurated in Ratanak Mondul District, Battambang Province, on January 17, 2026, marking a significant step in enhancing science education resources for local communities. On the same day, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed to establish an additional science library in Sangkè District, reinforcing regional educational collaboration.
The inauguration ceremony was held at Hun Sen Treng High School, attended by senior officials, educators, students, and local community leaders. Distinguished guests included Hem Vanndy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation of Cambodia, and Vanlalvawna Bawitlung, Ambassador of India to Cambodia.
In his address, the ambassador highlighted the strong and enduring partnership between India and Cambodia, emphasizing the importance of education and science in promoting sustainable development. He underlined that access to quality educational infrastructure is crucial for empowering future generations.
The newly inaugurated science library in Ratanak Mondul District is equipped with a rich collection of science books, practical learning tools, and experimentation materials designed to foster scientific curiosity and analytical thinking among students and teachers. The facility is expected to benefit more than 1,500 primary school students, along with educators and parents across the district.
The MoU signed on the same day outlines plans to build a second science library in Sangkè District, expanding access to educational resources in Battambang Province. This initiative demonstrates a shared commitment to improving science literacy and encouraging innovation in Cambodia’s education sector.
These projects are part of India’s Mekong–Ganga Cooperation Quick Impact Projects, through which India supports priority sectors such as education, health, sanitation, and agriculture in the region. Several similar projects have already been completed, with others underway, contributing to the overall developmental goals and strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
