Kochi: Cambodian and Japanese officials convened in Kochi, Japan, to discuss ways to deepen cooperation in agricultural processing and expand bilateral business partnerships. The meeting brought together representatives from the Cambodian Ministry of Commerce (MoC) and several Japanese firms, focusing on enhancing market access and investment opportunities for Cambodian agricultural products in Japan.
During the discussions, both sides exchanged views on promoting Cambodian agricultural exports, improving supply chains, and integrating advanced processing technologies. The talks also emphasized broadening commercial ties through increased investment in agro-processing sectors that can add value to farm products destined for the Japanese market.
Officials expressed interest in creating more favourable conditions for Japanese businesses to participate in Cambodia’s agricultural value chain. This includes support for investment in food processing facilities, technology transfer, and joint initiatives that could boost production efficiency and product quality.
The meeting underscored ongoing efforts to strengthen economic relations under broader Cambodia–Japan cooperation frameworks, which include trade promotion activities and investment facilitation. Officials noted the importance of aligning agricultural standards and improving product competitiveness to meet Japan’s market requirements, which may further support export expansion.
Japan remains one of Cambodia’s key economic partners, with bilateral cooperation spanning infrastructure, manufacturing, and agriculture. Cambodia’s agro-processing sector, seen as pivotal for rural development and export growth, is expected to benefit from enhanced Japanese engagement, particularly in areas such as food safety systems, processing technologies, and market access strategies.
Both countries indicated a shared goal of fostering sustainable, mutually beneficial economic links that encompass technology exchange, private-sector cooperation, and trade expansion. As dialogues continue, stakeholders in both nations will monitor progress in investment commitments and initiatives that could boost agricultural trade flows.
