Phnom Penh: Bilateral trade between Cambodia and France recorded notable growth in January 2026, with total merchandise trade rising by 14.9 percent compared with the same period last year, reaching approximately $58 million, according to official trade data.
The increase reflects rising commercial exchanges between Phnom Penh and Paris across a range of goods and services, including manufactured products and commodities that contribute to each country’s export portfolio. As one of Cambodia’s important European partners, France has maintained steady trade ties with the Southeast Asian nation, underpinning ongoing economic engagement between the two countries.
According to trade statistics, Cambodia’s exports to France encompass a variety of sectors, notably textiles, apparel, footwear, and other manufactured goods, while imports from France include specialised products and technologies linked to various industrial and consumer markets. Analysts point to the diversity of traded goods as a factor in the resilience of bilateral commerce.
The January trade figures form part of broader trends in Cambodia’s international trade performance. Recent data show that Cambodia’s total trade has been expanding steadily across multiple regions, supported by trade agreements and economic ties with partners in Asia and Europe. Cambodia’s trade volume with member economies of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), for example, also rose significantly in January, contributing to robust overall trade activity.
French business engagement in Cambodia has expanded beyond trade to include investment interests in sectors such as consumer goods and vocational training programmes, reflecting a multi-faceted partnership. With France consistently ranking among Cambodia’s key European trade partners, both governments continue to emphasise commercial ties as part of broader diplomatic and economic cooperation.
Stakeholders note that sustained trade growth may be supported by ongoing dialogue between business communities and government agencies in both countries. Enhanced participation in trade fairs, bilateral meetings, and targeted export promotion activities are expected to play roles in further diversifying trade flows.
As Cambodia’s external trade environment evolves, further developments with France and other global partners are anticipated to shape the country’s export-import landscape in the months ahead.
