The American University of Phnom Penh (AUPP) has forged a significant alliance with Next Make, a prominent Japanese firm, to introduce the “Japanese IT Pathway Program,” a new venture aimed at propelling Cambodian students to the forefront of information technology (IT) and unveiling vast career opportunities in Japan. This partnership underscores a proactive approach towards equipping students with sophisticated IT competencies and facilitating their integration into the Japanese job market.

On August 27, in a ceremony at AUPP, distinguished attendees, including Chea Vandeth, the Cambodian Minister of Post and Telecommunications; Ueno Atsushi, the Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia; Takahashi Fumiaki, President of the Japan-Cambodia Association (JCA); and Matsui Akira, CEO of Next Make, celebrated the collaboration. The event gathered leading figures from the Ministry, JCA, and the academic community, emphasizing the collaboration’s broad support base.

AUPP’s President, Malcom McIver, highlighted the day as a noteworthy advancement for the university and Cambodian students eager for global engagement. McIver conveyed the significance of this alliance in terms of providing AUPP students with a competitive edge and preparing them for leadership roles within the industry.

The partnership leverages Japan’s standing as a global leader in digital infrastructure and innovation. Students at AUPP now have the unparalleled chance to delve into cutting-edge Japanese technologies and gain firsthand experience in the nation’s tech industry, ensuring a job in Japan for every successful graduate of the program.

This initiative is part of a broader effort by AUPP to align with corporate and industry partners, ensuring that Cambodia’s next generation of leaders is ready to make significant contributions both locally and globally, McIver added.

Ambassador Ueno Atsushi commended the program for its role in nurturing human resources poised for the digital era, further cementing the dynamic partnership between Japan and Cambodia, especially in the wake of celebrating 70 years of diplomatic relations and advancing a new comprehensive strategic partnership.

Minister Chea Vandeth accentuated the program’s alignment with Cambodia’s digital transformation and the pressing need for skilled IT professionals in Japan’s burgeoning sectors like artificial intelligence and blockchain. This synergy between AUPP and Next Make not only promises enhanced employment avenues for Cambodian graduates in Japan but also aims to bolster Cambodia’s digital landscape at large.

In conclusion, the collaboration between AUPP and Next Make sets a precedent for educational initiatives that bridge skills gaps and foster economic and technological advancements across borders. It paves the way for a productive, technology-forward future for Cambodian IT professionals, with the promise of transforming digital education and supporting Cambodia’s digital transformation with an innovative and adaptive approach.
