Siem Reap is gearing up for a spectacular event that promises to be a night to remember. The Giant Puppet Parade is set to take place on Saturday, March 11th, and it is set to be a dazzling display of art and creativity.

The event is the culmination of two weeks of artist-led workshops with over 450 children. The workshops were designed to give children a chance to express their creativity and learn about the art of puppetry. The result of all this hard work is seven spectacular giant puppets that will be the stars of the show.

The parade route map shows that the parade will wind its way through the streets of Siem Reap, with the giant puppets leading the way. The parade will be accompanied by Phare the Cambodian Circus, The Siem Reap Scout Band, Sounds of Angkor, and live music. This promises to be a feast for the senses, with colorful costumes, lively music, and captivating performances.

The giant puppets themselves are a sight to behold. Each one has been meticulously crafted by the children and their artist mentors. The puppets range in size from 8 to 15 feet tall and are made from a variety of materials, including bamboo, paper mache, and fabric. Each puppet has its own unique design and character, from a towering elephant to a majestic bird.

The Giant Puppet Parade is more than just a night of entertainment, however. It is also an opportunity to showcase the creativity and talent of the local community. The event has been made possible through the efforts of local artists, musicians, and volunteers who have worked tirelessly to bring it to life.

The parade is also a celebration of the rich cultural heritage of Cambodia. The event features traditional Cambodian music and dance, as well as modern performances that blend traditional and contemporary styles. This fusion of old and new is a testament to the vitality of Cambodia’s cultural traditions and their ability to evolve and adapt.

Dara HUOT of Phare Performing Social Enterprise said: ” Phare, The Cambodian Circus joins hands with Jaya House River Park, Siem Reap in assisting to bring back the “Giant Puppet Parade” for its 2023 appearance.

As long-term sponsors of this unique annual event, we strongly believe in the local art world and its creativity on show.

Phare Circus/Jaya puppet will be “The Mother” and explain the importance of the ‘mother’ figure in Khmer society.

The Giant Puppet Project, Siem Reap, is a local children’s community arts project, the largest of its kind in Cambodia. It provides a creative platform for disadvantaged children to foster and promote self-expression and confidence through art.

So mark your calendar for Saturday, March 11, 2023, and join us at The Giant Puppet Street parade 2023.”

As the sun sets on Siem Reap on March 11th, the streets will come alive with the sound of music and the sight of giant puppets. The Giant Puppet Parade promises to be a night of joy, laughter, and wonder. Come join the fun and be a part of this unforgettable event.
