The Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation (MISTI), in partnership with the Ministry of Water Resources of China and UNICEF, has launched the China-Cambodia-UNICEF South-South Cooperation Project on Climate-Resilient Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH). This project reflects a joint commitment to providing vulnerable communities with access to clean, safe, and climate-resilient water and sanitation services, addressing the growing challenges posed by climate change.
Minister HEM Vanndy of MISTI highlighted Cambodia’s progress toward achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 6.1 and 6.2, which aim to ensure universal and equitable access to safe, affordable drinking water and adequate sanitation and hygiene by 2030. “Cambodia has made significant strides toward these goals, prioritizing the needs of women, girls, and vulnerable populations,” he said.
The programme involves three Cambodian ministries — MISTI, the Ministry of Rural Development (MRD), and the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) — which will receive technical and financial support from the Ministry of Water Resources of China and UNICEF China.
