In a recent statement, Cambodia’s Prime Minister, Dr. Hun Manet, emphasized the country’s openness to investments from all around the globe, refuting claims of exclusivity towards Chinese investments. This declaration was made during a gathering with the Cambodian diaspora in Australia and New Zealand on March 3, 2024, where Dr. Hun Manet and the First Lady were present.

Dr. Hun Manet addressed misconceptions regarding Cambodia’s investment climate, stating, “There is a narrative that Cambodia is courting investments solely from China or a particular nation, which I refute. Our doors are open to investors from all corners of the world. While it’s not guaranteed that every company we engage with will invest, even a small percentage of positive responses from numerous interactions is a mark of progress. Our strategy is to continually broaden our outreach and draw more investments.”

Highlighting the strides made under the new government, Dr. Hun Manet pointed out the enhanced macroeconomic stability over the past six months. The transition to the new administration had sparked debates about its capability to govern effectively. However, Dr. Hun Manet assured that the government has maintained administrative continuity and efficiency at both national and local levels.

In a notable achievement for the new administration, Dr. Hun Manet revealed that Cambodia has successfully secured 172 investment projects in the recent half-year, attracting nearly $4 billion in both domestic and international capital. These ventures are anticipated to generate approximately 190,000 job opportunities for Cambodians.

Among the significant investments is a project from a Chinese company, proposing to establish a tire manufacturing plant in Cambodia with an investment exceeding $1 billion. This project is part of the broader spectrum of investments the country has attracted, underscoring Cambodia’s appeal as a vibrant and diverse investment destination on the global stage.
