Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has called on informal economy workers to register on a newly launched digital platform to access benefits designed to improve their living standards and contribute to the nation’s economic growth.
Speaking on Monday (Dec. 16) at the inauguration of the digital platform for informal economy registration, held at Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel, the premier emphasized the significance of this initiative in fostering inclusivity and enhancing livelihoods.
“I would like to call on and encourage informal economy workers to register to seize various benefits, improve their living standards, and actively participate in the process of national economic development,” said Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet.
He also urged relevant ministries and institutions, particularly the Coordinating Committee for Informal Economy Development, to proactively address potential challenges associated with the platform’s operation. “This should be done with a proactive approach, paying close attention and taking full responsibility in addressing any challenges that may arise following the inauguration and operation of this digital platform,” he added.
The premier stressed the importance of ensuring the platform’s efficiency and sustainability while identifying and addressing shortcomings through realistic and practical solutions.
Hun Manet further reminded ministries, institutions, and administrations at all levels of the national government to diligently implement measures outlined in the national strategy. “Please consider strengthening support mechanisms to ensure that informal economy workers, particularly those in businesses and various occupations, receive the necessary attention, assistance, and care,” he noted.
This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to integrating informal workers into the formal economy, fostering economic resilience, and improving social welfare across Cambodia.
