Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has unveiled an ambitious vision to transform Preah Sihanouk province into Cambodia’s central logistics and trade hub, backed by a substantial US$1 billion investment in the province’s deep-sea port.
Speaking during the inauguration of a new building at Hun Sen Veal Rinh High School in Veal Rinh commune, Prey Nup district, the Prime Minister emphasised that the port expansion will position Preah Sihanouk as a key node in regional and global supply chains. He urged local communities to seize the new economic opportunities that will follow this transformation.
“Preah Sihanouk province will be Cambodia’s logistics hub,” he stated. “To realise this goal, we must develop a capable and competitive workforce. I encourage all residents, especially the youth, to invest in their education and skill development.”
Earlier that morning, Prime Minister Hun Manet presided over a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially open the new school building and accompanying infrastructure, reaffirming the government’s commitment to improving education nationwide. The event underscored the administration’s belief that human capital development must go hand-in-hand with economic growth.
H.E. Mang Sineth, Governor of Preah Sihanouk, reported that the province is already a dynamic economic zone, home to nearly 4,000 factories, service centres, and businesses that collectively employ over 127,000 workers. He highlighted that 290 investment projects, with a total capital of approximately US$2.85 billion, have been approved in the province.
The governor also noted that Preah Sihanouk currently hosts 12 special economic zones (SEZs)—five of which are fully operational, two under construction, and five in planning stages.
With strategic infrastructure investment and a strong push for educational advancement, Preah Sihanouk is on track to become a driving force in Cambodia’s next phase of economic development.
