In a recent meeting at the Peace Palace, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet urged Kelvin Mo, the President of the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce (CCC) in Montreal, Canada, to play an active role in promoting Cambodia as a prime destination for tourism, trade, and investment among Canadian businesses and investors.
The dialogue took place on a Tuesday when Kelvin Mo, alongside his delegation, met with the Prime Minister to present their courtesy call. Mo expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to engage with Samdech Thipadei and acknowledged the efforts of the Cambodian ministries and institutions in organizing their visit effectively, which aimed at fostering stronger economic connections between Cambodia and Canada.
During the interaction, Mo highlighted the impressive stride Cambodia has made under the leadership of Samdech Thipadei, achieving sustainable economic progress. Mo also showed enthusiasm for Cambodia’s upcoming role as the host for the 2026 Francophonie Summit. He suggested that this international event could serve as a catalyst in drawing attention from French-speaking investors and tourists to Cambodia. Furthermore, Mo delineated the objectives of his visit, which included exploring investment possibilities, understanding the government’s policies to entice investment, and seeking advice to boost Cambodia-Canada economic relationships.
Responding positively, PM Hun Manet welcomed Mo and his delegates and lauded Mo’s recent ascension as the head of CCC in Montreal. He emphasized the significance of establishing the CCC’s presence globally, including in the United States, Australia, Japan, France, and other European nations, to fortify Cambodia’s economic ties with the rest of the world. He pointed out that the CCC in Montreal functions as a vital conduit connecting Cambodian and Canadian businesses and investors.
Furthermore, PM Hun Manet outlined his expectations for the CCC in Montreal, urging it to collaborate closely with the Phnom Penh-based CCC. He highlighted two primary areas where the CCC could contribute significantly: firstly, by promoting Cambodia’s opportunities in tourism, trade, and investment to Canadian enterprises; and secondly, by aiding the Royal Government of Cambodia in amplifying trade relations with Canada. This includes facilitating trade discussions and promoting Cambodian exports in Canadian markets.
Additionally, in anticipation of the 2026 Francophonie Summit, PM Hun Manet proposed the creation of a regional French Cultural and Language Center in Cambodia to foster an appreciation of French culture and language in Asian countries. He encouraged the CCC in Montreal to coordinate with Cambodia’s Ministry of Commerce to deepen business and trade links between the two nations, aiming to leverage economic growth and opportunities on both sides.
