Japan Komeito Party Chief Representative Commends Cambodian Development Path

by TBC

During an enlightening visit to the Cambodian Prime Minister, Hun Manet, Yamaguchi Natsuo, the Chief Representative of Japan’s Komeito Party and esteemed member of the House of Councillors in the National Diet of Japan, articulated his confidence in Cambodia’s future under the stewardship of Prime Minister Hun Manet. The discussion took place at the Peace Palace on the brisk morning of July 15th.

Natsuo was forthright in his assurance, expressing his belief that under the sagacious direction of Prime Minister Hun Manet, there would be a wave of robust development across the nation. He took the occasion to applaud the expansion and significance of intergovernmental and legislative relationships between Japan and Cambodia, setting a precedent for diplomatic engagement and mutual growth.

The commendation from Natsuo extends to the realm of investment, with the Chief Representative observing Cambodia as a nation ripe with tranquility and progression, characteristics that invariably attract Japanese investors to the country’s markets. Natsuo expressed his hope for the continuation of Cambodian efforts to facilitate and nurture a conducive atmosphere for Japanese ventures.

Natsuo made a pivot to discuss the shared goals and cooperative spirit between the nations, touching on initiatives such as tackling climate change, ramping up cybersecurity measures, and ongoing demining operations. With a nod to the synergy with the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC), he highlighted Japan’s integral role in supporting one of the world’s most competent demining units.

Prime Minister Hun Manet warmly welcomed Natsuo and the accompanying Japanese delegation, extending his gratitude toward Japan’s support for Cambodia’s socioeconomic advancements, from the initial peace-seeking efforts to the contemporary landscape. Prime Minister Hun Manet seized the moment to reflect on the pinnacle of Cambodia-Japan relations marked by the induction of a “comprehensive strategic partnership” in 2023.

Social infrastructure, maritime connectivity, and the urgent mission of demining are at the forefront of Japan’s strategy to intensify cooperation with Cambodia. Prime Minister Hun Manet underscored the ongoing initiative to remove the shadow of unexploded ordinance over 3,000 square kilometers of land and efforts to make more than 1,700 square kilometers safe, thereby nurturing the welfare of the Cambodian populace.

Prime Minister Hun Manet articulated an appeal for Japan’s continued support, particularly in demining, advocating for an effort to not only extend but to deepen the cooperation between the two countries.

Highlighting his government’s commitment, Prime Minister Hun Manet discussed policies aimed at crafting an appealing commercial climate and enhancing Cambodia’s competitive edge through innovative investment laws and adaptable support mechanisms. These initiatives address investor needs, encourage private sector participation, and specifically target Japanese investors to ensure the fruition of their commercial activities in Cambodia.

Furthermore, with periodic consultations between the Council for the Development of Cambodia and Japanese investors, the government exhibits a proactive engagement to surmount challenges and carve pathways for investor success.

In concluding remarks, Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed his well wishes for Natsuo’s visit and the subsequent return journey, evoking a sense of optimism for the enduring rapport and collective progress between Cambodia and Japan.
