PHNOM PENH — Cambodia and Germany have officially deepened their economic ties. Therefore, both nations launched the Improved Competitiveness of National Enterprises in Cambodia Phase II (ICONE II) project. This initiative will boost local business capacity, drive industrial innovation, and build direct linkages with German companies.
Recently, leaders held an inter-ministerial meeting at the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC). Senior Minister Chhieng Yanara and German Ambassador Stefan Messerer co-chaired this high-level session. Specifically, around 50 key stakeholders attended the event. These participants included representatives from 11 Cambodian ministries, the German Embassy, and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).
During the meeting, officials reviewed two critical foundational documents. First, they approved the draft implementation agreement. Second, they finalized the 2026 operational plan to guide the project through its 2026–2030 cycle.
Elevating Local Enterprise Capabilities
ICONE Phase I achieved remarkable success. Consequently, the second phase focuses heavily on upgrading micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). Through targeted technical support and knowledge transfer, local firms will improve productivity. Furthermore, they will easily meet global market standards.
Senior Minister Chhieng Yanara emphasized that ICONE II matches Phase I of Cambodia’s Pentagonal Strategy. This strategy prioritizes economic diversification and sustainable job growth. Ultimately, by combining German technical expertise with local ambition, both countries will foster high-value industries and build a resilient economy.
