PHNOM PENH — Strengthening their long-standing bilateral partnership, Cambodia and Vietnam officially signed six major cooperation documents spanning trade, education, security, drug rehabilitation, and cultural preservation.
The high-level signing ceremony took place at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh, witnessed by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and visiting Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung.
Key Areas of Bilateral Cooperation
The newly established framework includes a series of memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and formal government agreements designed to deepen institutional coordination and economic integration:
- Bilateral Trade Expansion: The agreements establish a dedicated Joint Trade Committee and a comprehensive framework arrangement aimed at accelerating cross-border commerce and achieving mutual trade turnover targets.
- Education Partnership: Both nations finalized a targeted education cooperation agreement spanning from 2026 to 2030, supporting academic exchanges and institutional capacity building.
- Security and Counter-Narcotics: Joint initiatives include security cooperation agreements between the National Information Technology Center of Cambodia and Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security, alongside a collaborative project to construct a national drug treatment and rehabilitation center in Svay Rieng province.
- Cultural Preservation: An explicit accord was adopted to maintain and promote the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Monument, honoring shared historical ties.
Strengthening Regional Ties
The discussions emphasized expanding transport connectivity, private-sector engagement, and regional stability. Both administrations reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close diplomatic coordination to support sustainable long-term economic development.
