PHNOM PENH — In an effort to enhance data-driven policymaking and institutional transparency, Cambodia has officially rolled out a new EU-supported initiative designed to strengthen its national statistics and data management systems.
The collaborative framework aims to upgrade technical capacities across government bodies, ensuring more accurate, timely, and internationally comparable socio-economic data.
Enhancing Data Capacity and Governance
The project focuses on modernizing statistical collection methods and aligning national metrics with international standards:
- Institutional Capacity Building: The program provides specialized training for personnel at the National Institute of Statistics (NIS) and relevant line ministries to improve digital data collection and analysis.
- Supporting Socio-Economic Planning: Reliable statistical frameworks are vital for tracking progress on national development strategies, including the Pentagonal Strategy and sustainable development goals.
- Strengthening Digital Infrastructure: Upgrading hardware and software systems allows for secure, efficient data sharing across public institutions.
Officials emphasized that robust statistical data remains foundational for evaluating economic performance, attracting foreign investment, and monitoring the impact of public welfare programs.
