Nippon Koei Business Partners Co., Ltd. has expressed interest in investing in Cambodia’s cashew processing sector, focusing on producing cashew nut-based products such as vinegar and oil, as well as utilizing cashew shells for animal feed.
The company’s investment interest was highlighted by Mr. Tsutomu Tamura, Deputy General Manager of Nippon Koei Business Partners Co., Ltd., during a meeting on January 30 with H.E. Chea Vuthy, Secretary General of the Cambodian Investment Board at the Council for the Development of Cambodia.
During the meeting, H.E. Chea Vuthy briefed Mr. Tamura on Cambodia’s strong potential in cashew production, the key provinces suitable for cashew cultivation, and strategies to maximize the value-added benefits of cashew processing. He emphasized the Royal Government of Cambodia’s commitment to promoting the cashew sector, particularly in enhancing local processing capabilities.
In 2024, Cambodia exported over 800,000 tonnes of cashew nuts, generating approximately USD 1.15 billion—an increase of 31 percent compared to the previous year. The country’s total cashew production reached around 850,000 tonnes, marking a 26 percent growth from 2023, according to Mr. Uon Siloth, President of the Cambodian Cashew Association. At present, Cambodia has 50 cashew processing enterprises, including six medium-sized factories.
Vietnam, Japan, and China remain the primary markets for Cambodian cashew exports. The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries reports that cashew plantations in Cambodia covered approximately 580,117 hectares in 2024. Kampong Thom province leads with the largest cultivation area of about 147,700 hectares, followed by Kratie province with 102,500 hectares and Rattanakiri province with 97,200 hectares.
With growing international demand and increasing government support, Cambodia’s cashew processing industry presents a promising investment opportunity for companies like Nippon Koei Business Partners.
