Cambodia–India Cooperation: Key Areas of Discussion

Spiritual Tourism Development between India and Cambodia
Both sides highlighted the immense potential of spiritual tourism, with a focus on enhancing the appeal of Angkor Wat for Indian pilgrims. The delegation emphasised infrastructure improvements, curated Hindu-Buddhist heritage storytelling, and high-quality travel experiences. Adarniya Rajiv Kapahi Ji noted Indigo’s upcoming direct Kolkata–Cambodia route as a catalyst for increasing air connectivity for spiritual travellers.

Agricultural Trade: Cashew and Raw Material Opportunities
Cambodia’s growing cashew industry and India’s large-scale processing capacity were identified as a natural trade fit. The dialogue included sustainable raw material exchange and expanding agricultural commodity sourcing from Cambodia to meet Indian demand.

Infrastructure and Railway Collaboration
With India’s extensive expertise in railway infrastructure and engineering, the discussions explored how India could support Cambodia in upgrading its domestic railway systems. The goal is to foster regional connectivity and economic development through technology transfer and project partnerships.

Textile and Garment Industry Synergy
India’s robust textile sector presents major collaboration potential with Cambodia’s garment industry, which constitutes approximately 30% of the country’s exports. Indian companies such as Narmadeshwari were identified as key fabric suppliers to strengthen Cambodia’s manufacturing base.

Water and Wastewater Infrastructure Projects
A strategic highlight was CPCC and AZ Group’s collaboration with Ion Exchange to introduce decentralised and centralised water treatment solutions in Cambodia. The proposed model includes EPC, BOO, BOT, and PPP frameworks, along with technical knowledge transfer and international funding mechanisms to support large-scale implementation in both municipal and industrial contexts.

Ms. U K Chanbolinda

The delegation was warmly received by H.E. Rath Many, Ambassador of Cambodia to India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Iran, and Bangladesh. Her Excellency offered strategic insight into advancing bilateral initiatives through economic diplomacy, cultural engagement, and spiritual understanding.

Expanding Bilateral Ties through Culture, Tourism, and Education

Spiritual Diplomacy and Angkor Wat Promotion
Her Excellency reaffirmed Angkor Wat’s dual heritage appeal for Hindus and Buddhists and expressed Cambodia’s commitment to making the site more accessible and relevant to Indian travellers. Discussions emphasised storytelling, infrastructure, and service quality as essential drivers of tourism growth.

Tourism Infrastructure Enhancement
The Cambodian delegation highlighted the need for investment in roads, sanitation, accommodations, and water treatment systems around major tourist destinations. Improving visitor experience is critical to attracting high-value Indian tourists.

Direct Air Connectivity and Trade Facilitation
The recently approved direct flight from Kolkata to Cambodia was seen as a major breakthrough. The potential for additional routes was discussed to boost not just tourism but also trade logistics and investment mobility.

Bilateral Events and Economic Forums
Her Excellency proposed collaborative events hosted by the Cambodian Embassy and CPCC India, including trade expos, business networking sessions, and cultural showcases aimed at promoting Cambodian industries and investment opportunities to Indian partners.

Sectoral Opportunities for Holistic Development
Key growth sectors discussed included:

  • Education – with knowledge sharing framed as a sacred responsibility
  • Mining – advocating ethical and sustainable resource development
  • Railways – supporting Cambodia’s domestic and cross-border infrastructure expansion
  • Agriculture – strengthening raw material and food trade channels

CPCC India: Strengthening Cambodia–India Business and Cultural Relations

The establishment of the Cambodian Private Commercial Centre (CPCC) in India is a direct result of high-level engagement and strategic vision from H.E. Dr. Sok Siphana, H.E. Cham Nimol, and H.E. Pan Sorasak Bora. Led by Oknha Lim Bunsor and Mr. Jas Sohl through AZ Group, CPCC India is now positioned as Cambodia’s official commercial gateway into India.

With a mission to promote trade, investment, and cultural connectivity, CPCC will continue to facilitate structured engagements across industries, build new market linkages, and deliver joint value for both economies.

This new chapter of Cambodia–India relations is grounded in Dharma and driven by shared prosperity. With CPCC India as a bridge, the path forward is defined by spiritual resonance, commercial opportunity, and mutual respect.
