MinebeaMitsumi to Launch Major Factory in Pursat; CEO Meets Senate President Hun Sen

Phnom Penh, July 23, 2025 – MinebeaMitsumi, a leading Japanese multinational manufacturer, is set to inaugurate a new large-scale factory in Cambodia’s Pursat Province this December, marking another milestone in its 14-year journey of investment in the Kingdom.

This announcement was made during a courtesy call on Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen by MinebeaMitsumi CEO Yoshihisa Kainuma on July 22 at the Senate. The meeting underscored the strong and long-standing partnership between the Royal Government of Cambodia and the Japanese conglomerate.

According to Senate Spokesperson Chea Thyrith, Samdech Techo warmly welcomed Mr. Kainuma and his delegation, reflecting on more than a decade of successful cooperation. He reiterated the Cambodian government’s consistent support for companies that have demonstrated long-term commitment and investment in the country.

Mr. Kainuma expressed deep gratitude for the unwavering support provided by the Cambodian leadership over the years, dating back to Samdech Hun Sen’s tenure as Prime Minister. He credited this support as a key driver of MinebeaMitsumi’s growth in Cambodia, and shared plans for the company’s upcoming factory in Pursat Province, which is expected to further boost local industry and job creation.

He also unveiled MinebeaMitsumi’s newest product innovation, which is slated for release on the global market in 2026. The CEO praised the Cambodian workforce and expressed pride in the “Made in Cambodia” label that MinebeaMitsumi’s products now carry.

However, Mr. Kainuma also voiced concerns regarding the recent closures of border checkpoints between Thailand and Cambodia, which have disrupted the movement of components and affected the company’s supply chain operations.

In response, Samdech Techo Hun Sen shared his pride in MinebeaMitsumi’s progress and reflected on the competitive investment environment when the company first entered Cambodia. He affirmed that Cambodia remains committed to protecting all investors, both large and small, and that very few companies face shutdowns or evictions—an indicator of the Kingdom’s stable and welcoming business environment.

He welcomed the decision to expand into Pursat Province, noting that the region is well-equipped with infrastructure such as electricity and road connectivity to support industrial development.

Touching on the regional situation, Samdech Techo raised concerns over Thailand’s recent politically motivated actions, which have led to unnecessary tensions along the border. He called on Thailand to avoid escalating isolated border issues into broader economic and social disputes, citing retaliatory measures such as the restriction of electricity, internet, and fuel supply, as well as recent landmine-related incidents involving Thai troops.

Samdech reiterated Cambodia’s stance on resolving such issues peacefully and urged the MinebeaMitsumi delegation to convey the Kingdom’s concerns to relevant parties in Thailand. He specifically emphasized the importance of returning to the status quo that existed before June 7, 2025, to ensure smooth cross-border operations and investor confidence.

He concluded the meeting by expressing hope for an interim solution that would enable continued cross-border logistics for foreign investors and keep supply chains uninterrupted. Samdech Techo wished Mr. Kainuma ongoing success in leading MinebeaMitsumi’s operations globally and reaffirmed Cambodia’s continued support for the company’s growth.

MinebeaMitsumi is one of the largest Japanese investors in Cambodia, employing thousands of Cambodians and serving as a model for successful foreign direct investment in the Kingdom. The company’s expansion into Pursat is expected to bring new economic opportunities to the province and reinforce Cambodia’s reputation as a manufacturing hub in the region.
