Strong Passenger Growth Across All International Airports
Cambodia’s aviation sector is experiencing a solid rebound, with more than 5.6 million domestic and international travellers passing through the country’s three international airports in the first ten months of 2025. Data from the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA) shows that Techo International Airport, Siem Reap–Angkor International Airport, and Sihanouk International Airport collectively recorded 5,665,129 round-trip passengers, a 14% increase compared to the same period last year.
Flight activity also grew steadily, reaching 52,954 incoming and outgoing flights, up 12%, while air cargo registered 74,912 tonnes, also rising 14% year-on-year.
Government Efforts to Expand Air Connectivity
According to SSCA spokesperson Sinn Chansereyvutha, the growth is a result of coordinated efforts among government institutions and airport operators.
He highlighted that the government is actively negotiating new air route agreements, while airport operators are expanding their market reach by targeting new destinations. At the same time, the Ministry of Tourism is intensifying international promotion efforts to attract more travellers.
Tourism Industry Welcomes Rising Passenger Numbers
President of the Cambodia Association of Travel Agents, Chhay Sivlin, welcomed the upward trend, noting that increased direct flights are crucial for strengthening the country’s tourism competitiveness.
She emphasized that improving direct connectivity from major tourism markets will help draw more visitors and support the broader recovery of Cambodia’s tourism industry.
Flight Operations Increase as More Airlines Enter the Market
As of November, 34 airlines—including 4 domestic and 30 international carriers—operated regular services across the three major international airports. Weekly flight operations reached 1,320 flights, broken down as:
- Techo International Airport: 890 flights
- Siem Reap–Angkor International Airport: 368 flights
- Sihanouk International Airport: 60 flights
New routes launched this year include Turkish Airlines (Istanbul–Phnom Penh), IndiGo (Kolkata–Siem Reap) and Firefly Airlines (Kuala Lumpur–Siem Reap). Additionally, South Korea’s T’way and Air Busan are expected to begin operating in Cambodia by late 2025.
Outlook: Aviation Growth Strengthens Tourism and Trade
The steady rise in passenger traffic, cargo volumes, and new airline connections signals a strong recovery for Cambodia’s aviation and tourism sectors.
With more international routes scheduled and growing interest from foreign carriers, the country is well-positioned to deepen its role as a regional hub for tourism and trade.
These developments are expected to further support Cambodia’s economic growth, strengthen its tourism competitiveness, and expand international connectivity in the months ahead.
