Cambodia has announced a pilot visa exemption programme for Chinese travellers to boost tourism. The initiative will run from June 15 to October 15, 2026, and aims to encourage travel from China, Hong Kong, and Macau as part of the country’s efforts to revive international tourism.
Under the programme, holders of Chinese, Hong Kong, and Macau passports can enter Cambodia without a visa and stay for up to 14 days. Travellers are required to complete an online E‑Arrival Card before departure, but no visa fees will apply during the four-month pilot period. Multiple entries are permitted throughout the trial.
The Ministry of Tourism confirmed that the programme has official approval from the Cambodian government. Authorities said the measure is designed to make Cambodia a more accessible and attractive destination for Chinese visitors, particularly during the peak summer and early autumn travel season.
Recent tourism statistics show that Cambodia welcomed over 1.1 million Chinese tourists in the first 11 months of 2025, accounting for more than 20% of total international arrivals. China remains a key source market for Cambodia’s tourism industry, highlighting the importance of policies that facilitate travel for Chinese visitors.
Officials expect the visa-free pilot to stimulate the local hospitality sector, including hotels, tour operators, and popular tourist destinations such as Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and coastal areas. While the programme is temporary, the government will monitor visitor trends closely to evaluate its effectiveness and determine potential future visa arrangements.
The pilot visa exemption reflects Cambodia’s broader strategy to revitalise tourism, strengthen economic activity, and improve accessibility for international travellers. By simplifying entry for Chinese tourists, the country aims to capture a larger share of the growing outbound travel market from China while supporting local businesses and tourism infrastructure.
