PHNOM PENH, Cambodia – February 4, 2026 – Outgoing Indonesian Ambassador Santo Darmosumarto has affirmed his commitment to fostering stronger economic ties and increasing bilateral trade with Cambodia, pledging continued support for investment and visitor exchanges.

This commitment was highlighted during a farewell meeting with Sun Chanthol, First Vice-Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), held at the CDC headquarters yesterday, February 3rd. The discussion underscored the significant efforts made during Ambassador Darmosumarto’s tenure to enhance cooperation between the two Southeast Asian nations.

Strengthening Investment and Trade Links for Cambodia

Ambassador Darmosumarto expressed his intent to continue promoting and encouraging reciprocal visits between Indonesian and Cambodian investors. He aims to motivate more Indonesian businesses to explore the promising investment landscape in Cambodia, further expanding the bilateral trade volume between the two countries.

During the meeting, Mr. Chanthol lauded the ambassador’s dedicated efforts, which have significantly contributed to strengthening friendship and broadening cooperation, particularly across the economic, trade, and investment sectors. He acknowledged the substantial progress made under Ambassador Darmosumarto’s diplomatic leadership in enhancing business in Cambodia.

A Bridge for Future Opportunities

Ambassador Darmosumarto conveyed his sincere gratitude to the Royal Government of Cambodia and the CDC for their exceptional cooperation and facilitation, which ensured the success of his diplomatic mission. He emphasized that despite the conclusion of his official duties, he would remain a crucial advocate for Cambodia’s investment potential.

“Although my diplomatic mission in Cambodia has come to an end, I will continue to serve as an important bridge in further promoting Cambodia’s investment potential and opportunities to the Indonesian business community,” Ambassador Darmosumarto stated, signaling ongoing support for the Kingdom’s economic development.

Key Economic Achievements and Partnership Overview

The CDC reported that both officials reviewed several key achievements from their partnership. These include enhanced business connectivity, a notable increase in overall trade volume, successful promotions for investor exchange visits between Indonesia and Cambodia, and Cambodia’s steadfast support for Indonesian companies operating or planning to expand within the Cambodian market.

According to data from the General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE), total trade between Cambodia and Indonesia in 2025 reached $1.08919 billion. While this marked a slight decrease of 1.3% from 2024, Indonesia remains a significant partner, ranking as Cambodia’s 10th largest trading partner among global economies.

Breaking down the figures, Cambodia’s exports to Indonesia totaled $67.42 million, a decrease of 28.8%, while imports from Indonesia saw a 1.3% increase, reaching $1.02176 billion. These statistics highlight areas where future cooperation can focus on balancing trade and fostering growth for Cambodian enterprises.

Indonesian Tourism to the Kingdom

Beyond trade relations, Cambodia also continues to be a compelling destination for Indonesian visitors. The Ministry of Tourism reported that 149,840 Indonesian tourists traveled to Cambodia in 2025. This figure represents a 10.2% decline compared to 2024, highlighting an area where future promotional efforts could be beneficial to boost Cambodia tourism.

The continued commitment from Ambassador Darmosumarto, even after his diplomatic term, underscores the enduring value of the Cambodia-Indonesia relationship. Efforts to boost bilateral trade and investment are expected to yield mutual benefits, fostering economic growth and strengthening regional cooperation in Southeast Asia, creating a better Cambodia for all.
