A member of the executive board of Germany’s Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, Peter Altmann, praised Cambodia’s development during an official visit to Phnom Penh. The remarks were made during a meeting with Cambodia’s Acting Head of State and Senate President Hun Sen, where both sides discussed bilateral relations and future cooperation.
According to officials, the meeting took place at the Solidarity Palace on March 5 and focused on strengthening ties between political organisations and exploring broader cooperation opportunities between Germany and Cambodia.
Observations on Cambodia’s Development
During the meeting, Altmann expressed admiration for Cambodia’s progress and described the country as a “beautiful nation,” noting that his visit provided an opportunity to observe the country’s growth firsthand.
He also acknowledged Cambodia’s development trajectory in recent years, highlighting improvements in infrastructure, economic activity, and governance initiatives that have contributed to the country’s development path.
Cambodian officials welcomed the delegation and expressed hope that the visit would encourage deeper dialogue and cooperation between institutions in both countries.
Opportunities for Bilateral Cooperation
Discussions during the meeting also included prospects for collaboration between the Cambodian People’s Party and Germany’s AfD party, as well as potential engagement in economic and political areas.
Officials indicated that such diplomatic exchanges could help strengthen communication channels and create opportunities for cooperation in areas including trade, investment, and development initiatives.
Potential Economic and Real Estate Implications
International visits and diplomatic engagements can influence economic confidence and international perception of emerging markets. Cambodia has been experiencing steady growth in sectors such as infrastructure development, tourism, and urban expansion.
Greater international engagement and cooperation with European stakeholders could contribute to investor interest in the country’s commercial and residential real estate markets. Phnom Penh, in particular, has seen continued development in mixed-use projects, office spaces, and hospitality infrastructure to support economic growth and international business activity.
