Cambodia has officially inaugurated the Kampong Cham Water Supply System, a major infrastructure project aimed at improving access to clean and safe water for thousands of residents in Kampong Cham province. The project significantly expands water distribution services and strengthens the country’s urban infrastructure development strategy.
The USD 12.98 million project was implemented under the Provincial Water Supply and Sanitation Project and jointly financed by the Cambodian government, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Agence Française de Développement (AFD), and the European Union.
Water Access More Than Doubled
According to officials, the upgraded water system has more than doubled access to the Kampong Cham Water Utility network.

The project also added approximately 11,600 cubic meters of treated water per day, increasing the utility’s total production capacity to around 28,100 cubic meters daily.

Government and Development Partners Highlight Benefits
Cambodian Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation Hem Vanndy said reliable access to clean water remains essential for public health, economic productivity, and sustainable urban growth.
ADB Country Director for Cambodia Yasmin Siddiqi noted that access to safe water is one of the most impactful investments for communities and economic resilience. Development partners also emphasized that the project demonstrates successful multilateral cooperation supporting Cambodia’s infrastructure modernisation efforts.

The Kampong Cham system follows the recent inauguration of the Battambang Water Supply System and forms part of Cambodia’s broader efforts to modernise provincial water infrastructure. The government aims to improve access to clean water while supporting urbanisation and economic development across the country.
