Cambodia’s General Department of Immigration (GDI) has firmly rejected reports circulating on several foreign websites that claimed African nationals with expired immigration waivers had been ordered to leave the Kingdom by 31 May 2026.
In a clarification issued on Friday, 29 May, the GDI stated that it had taken note of articles published by foreign websites, including Campaigner Online and News Ghana, which carried headlines suggesting that Cambodia had instructed Africans with expired immigration waivers to depart the country before the end of May.
The department described the reports as completely false and said no such order had been issued by Cambodian immigration authorities.

According to the GDI, the information published by the websites does not reflect any official policy, directive, or announcement made by the Royal Government of Cambodia or the Ministry of Interior.
The immigration authority stressed that it remains committed to providing accurate and transparent information regarding immigration matters and urged both Cambodian citizens and the international community to verify information through official government channels.
The GDI also encouraged the public, foreign residents, and international media outlets to rely solely on official statements and announcements when seeking information related to Cambodia’s immigration regulations and policies.
The clarification comes amid growing concerns about the spread of misinformation online, particularly on issues that may affect foreign residents, visitors, and international perceptions of the country.
Cambodia continues to welcome foreign nationals who comply with the Kingdom’s immigration laws and regulations, while authorities maintain regular communication through official channels regarding visa requirements, residency matters, and immigration procedures.
The General Department of Immigration reiterated that any updates concerning immigration policies will be announced through its official platforms and relevant government institutions.
