SIEM REAP — The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) is expanding its partnership with the Siem Reap Provincial Administration to advance green economic initiatives and strengthen local environmental protections.
Siem Reap Provincial Deputy Governor Yun Linne hosted a bilateral discussion with a GGGI delegation led by Executive Director Sang-Hyup Kim. During the meeting, both leaders discussed strategic framework expansion across key sustainability sectors.
Advancing Electric Public Transport and Urban Quality
GGGI Executive Director Sang-Hyup Kim outlined the institute’s international track record in sustainable urban management, highlighting previous initiatives in Petra, Jordan, and Bali, Indonesia. These projects focused on clean water access, sustainable tourism, waste management, and environmental protection.
Building on these regional models, GGGI aims to support Siem Reap in introducing zero-emission public transportation systems powered by electric vehicles (EVs).
The proposed EV infrastructure aims to achieve several key environmental goals:
- Reducing Air and Noise Pollution: Eliminating toxic exhaust fumes and reducing traffic noise in urban and historical corridors.
- Lowering Carbon Emissions: Supporting national climate mitigation goals through low-carbon transport options.
- Improving Urban Air Quality: Protecting local public health and tourist destinations across the province.
Strengthening International Green Cooperation
Deputy Governor Yun Linne welcomed GGGI’s initiative, noting that the provincial administration supports programs targeting environmental preservation and sustainable socio-economic growth.
Following the discussions, both sides committed to maintaining close communication to develop tangible projects. Through this collaboration, Siem Reap and GGGI aim to combine economic innovation with long-term climate resilience.
