PHNOM PENH — Highlighting expanding regional economic integration, Cambodia and Vietnam have reaffirmed their shared commitment to scale up bilateral trade to $20 billion.
The pledge was underscored during high-level discussions and business forums in the capital, co-chaired by Prime Minister Hun Manet and visiting Vietnamese leadership, bringing together key private-sector stakeholders and government officials.
Driving Momentum Through Connectivity and Logistics
Recent trade figures indicate steady progress, with bilateral commerce reaching $8.7 billion in the first eight months of the year—representing an 8.3 percent increase year-on-year. To bridge the gap toward the $20 billion milestone, both governments are prioritizing critical infrastructure and trade facilitation measures:
- Expressway and Border Gate Integration: Authorities are expediting the connection linking the Phnom Penh–Bavet Expressway with Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City–Moc Bai route, alongside opening new international border gates to streamline cargo movement.
- Sector Diversification: Beyond traditional agricultural commodities, both nations are expanding cooperation into the digital economy, information and communications technology, agro-processing, and clean energy.
- Private Sector Engagement: Increased cross-border business forums aim to foster joint ventures, timber plantation investments, and manufacturing partnerships.
Vietnam remains one of Cambodia’s top trading partners and export destinations, and both administrations continue to position bilateral cooperation as a cornerstone of stability and growth within the Mekong subregion.
