HANOI — Cambodian National Assembly President Samdech Khuon Sudary and Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man reaffirmed their shared commitment to deepening bilateral relations during high-level talks in Hanoi. The leaders held comprehensive discussions on Tuesday to strengthen ties across key economic and governance sectors.
During the meeting, both leaders exchanged strategic views on advancing parliamentary diplomacy and promoting people-to-people exchanges. Furthermore, they agreed to expand cooperation in trade, investment, healthcare, tourism, education, science, technology, and innovation to support people-centred development.
Strategic Focus on Economic Targets and SMEs
To boost regional economic momentum, both sides agreed to expand legislative cooperation and strengthen direct business links. Specifically, the trade partners set an ambitious target to increase bilateral trade to USD 20 billion, with a focus on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
To achieve these goals, Samdech Khuon Sudary proposed updating the 2022 Memorandum of Understanding between the two National Assemblies. In addition, she called for expanded cooperation in healthcare and encouraged greater Vietnamese investment and tourism in Cambodia.
Furthermore, the Cambodian parliamentary leader requested Vietnam’s continued technical support for modernizing Cambodia’s National Assembly into a digital parliament. The Vietnamese delegation welcomed these proposals.
Enhancing Regional Connectivity and Defense Cooperation
Both leaders emphasized the importance of stronger economic connectivity, transport links, and parliamentary cooperation to support sustainable development and ASEAN unity.
In addition, the two sides reaffirmed their ongoing partnership in national defense and regional security. Consequently, both nations will step up joint efforts to combat cybercrime and online fraud.
Finally, both legislative leaders expressed strong confidence that closer diplomatic and economic ties will deliver long-term benefits for the people of both nations.
